Are you a nature enthusiast with a keen eye for macro photography? Organized by the UK-based Royal Entomological Society, the 2026 Insect Photography Competition invites amateur photographers from around the globe to explore and capture the fascinating, hidden world of insects.
Because this contest explicitly excludes professional photographers, it is an incredibly accessible, low-pressure opportunity for hobbyists, students, and emerging nature photographers to showcase their skills and win substantial cash prizes.
Theme & Submission Guidelines
This competition is entirely focused on the beauty and diversity of insect life.
- The Subject: Photographs must feature an insect (or a group of insects) occurring naturally in the environment where it was photographed.
- Life Stages: You are free to capture any life stage of the insect, from egg, nymph, larva, or pupa, all the way to adulthood. Insects can be photographed anywhere in the world.
- Submission Limit: Each participant may submit up to three (3) photos for consideration.
Prizes and Awards
With no entry fee required, the competition offers generous cash prizes split into two distinct age categories to support both adult and youth photographers:
18 and Over Category:
- 1st Prize: £750
- 2nd Prize: £500
Under 18 Category:
- 1st Prize: £450
- 2nd Prize: £250
