April 16–19 with Strong Focus on Discovery and Regional Voices

San Francisco — The San Francisco Art Fair (formerly Art Market San Francisco) will return for its 14th edition from April 16 to 19, 2026, at the scenic Fort Mason Festival Pavilion. Produced by Art Market Productions, the fair continues to serve as the Bay Area’s longest-running major art event and one of the most accessible high-quality fairs on the West Coast.

Under the direction of Kelly Freeman and Artistic Director Nato Thompson, the 2026 edition will feature approximately 85 galleries from across the United States and internationally, presenting modern and contemporary works in painting, sculpture, photography, works on paper, and mixed media. The fair is known for striking a thoughtful balance between established names and emerging talent, making it particularly attractive to both seasoned collectors and those new to the market.

A Welcoming yet Serious Marketplace

Set against the backdrop of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Mason provides a dramatic yet relaxed environment that stands in contrast to the intensity of larger fairs like Frieze or Art Basel. Visitors can expect a democratic atmosphere where meaningful conversations with gallerists and artists are encouraged.

This year’s fair will place special emphasis on Bay Area and West Coast artists, while also highlighting strong Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) perspectives — a reflection of the region’s cultural makeup and the evolving priorities of the contemporary art world.

The fair will once again include a robust Public Projects program curated by Nato Thompson, featuring site-specific installations and special programming that extends beyond the pavilion into the wider Bay Area cultural scene.

Why San Francisco Art Fair Matters in 2026

In a year marked by cautious optimism following the UBS & Art Basel Global Art Market Report, San Francisco Art Fair positions itself as a steady and approachable platform. While many international fairs have become increasingly exclusive and expensive, this event maintains its commitment to accessibility without sacrificing quality.

For galleries, it offers valuable exposure to West Coast collectors and institutions. For collectors, it provides an excellent opportunity to discover fresh work in a navigable setting. For emerging and mid-career artists, it remains one of the more realistic avenues for gaining meaningful market presence on the West Coast.

The fair also coincides with San Francisco Art Week, creating a citywide celebration of visual art with gallery openings, special events, and satellite programming.

As the spring art season gains momentum, San Francisco Art Fair continues to prove that a fair can be both commercially viable and genuinely welcoming — a combination that feels increasingly valuable in today’s art ecosystem.
