Apexart Announces International Open Call Winners for 2025-26

Apexart Announces International Open Call Winners for 2025-26 Apexart Announces International Open Call Winners for 2025-26

Artinfoland Magazine is thrilled to share the latest news from apexart, a renowned platform for innovative exhibitions. Following a rigorous month-long submission process in February and a voting period in March, apexart has unveiled the five winning exhibition proposals for its 2025–26 season, selected through its International Open Call. These exhibitions will take place in their respective locations, showcasing diverse and thought-provoking art from around the globe.

A Unique Selection Process

apexart’s Open Call stands out for its democratic, crowd-sourced voting system. This year, the call received 369 anonymous proposals, which were reviewed by over 700 jurors from more than 80 countries. With over 20,000 votes cast, the process ensures that selections reflect the global art community’s interests, free from bias or connections. Jurors evaluate each proposal—limited to 500 words with no additional materials, images, or resumes—based solely on the strength of the idea.

This approach allows for cultural perspectives that might be overlooked by a smaller, localized jury, empowering a truly international cohort to shape the exhibition season.

Winning Exhibitions for 2025–26

Here are the five winning proposals that will come to life as part of apexart’s 2025–26 season:

  • A Border is Made of Papers
Submitted by Hend Ben Salah, Myriam Amri, and Valeria Téllez-Niemeyer—Montréal, Canada
This exhibition delves into the bureaucratic systems that define borders through paperwork, visas, and identification. It examines how these mechanisms restrict movement, shape identities, and disproportionately impact marginalized communities, challenging notions of belonging.
  • Skate, Create, Liberate: Women Artists and the Future of Radical Space in Ethiopia
Submitted by Betelihem Zena—Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Highlighting Ethiopia’s feminist skateboarding movement, this exhibition focuses on the Ethiopian Girl Skaters collective and female artists. It explores themes of resistance, identity, and empowerment, showing how skateboarding and art intersect to challenge gender, race, and systemic oppression.
  • CRAFTING LOSS, WEAVING FUTURES
Submitted by VDRS—Vietnam Design Research Studio—Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
This exhibition reimagines Vietnamese textile traditions as interactive archives. Featuring the work of three artists, it presents textiles as living records of movement, resilience, and cultural memory, blending history, craft, and participatory storytelling.
  • Bad Lament
    Submitted by Minseon Kim—Seoul, Korea
This project challenges conventional mourning practices by creating a queer, anti-structural space for grief. It disrupts traditional rituals to honor marginalized voices, reimagining collective mourning as a form of resistance against societal norms.
  • The Other Order
    Submitted by Obiajulu Ozegbe—Lagos, Nigeria
A multi-sensory exhibition that humanizes the stories of displaced Nigerian families through sound, photography, video, and performance. It addresses the global issue of land grabbing and its devastating effects on communities, particularly women and children.
